It can be frustrating and scary when something as simple as eating and talking cause pain. But the TMJ is a complicated joint that can cause a wide variety of symptoms.
While clicking/popping and pain with talking and chewing are the ‘classic’ signs of TMJ dysfunction; other symptoms can be as varied as:
- Headache
- Painful scalp
- Tooth pain
- Tooth grinding
- Jaw locking
- Eye pain
- Tinnitus
- Sensation of clogged ears (with no ear infection)
- Vertigo/dizziness
- Sore throat or cough
- Difficulty swallowing, or feeling like something is stuck in your throat
