We Work Together To Play, Have Fun, Design And Create

Torticollis is a musculoskeletal condition which often affects young infants and toddlers. Kids with torticollis develop a tightening of the Sternocleidomastoid (SCM) muscle.
This can be due to positioning during birth or can be idiopathic. Tightening of the SCM muscle can lead to neck pain and headache; while prolonged time in this position can lead to flattening of the skull. In some children torticollis will resolve on its own. Other kids can benefit from skilled therapy to help parents come up with a stretching routine and/or some positional changes during feeding and play to help relax the muscle.

Torticollis can also happen in adults; generally as a result of whiplash or prolonged static posture. Adult torticollis can also be due to other muscle conditions which cause spasticity (such as MS or CP).

By performing a thorough assessment, a physical therapist can help design an individualized treatment plan and get you feeling better.
